AIB Customers Experiencing Internet and Mobile Banking Issues

AIB said some customers may experience problems accessing internet and mobile banking.

According to Downdetector.compeople reported outages from 11am this morning until 5pm.

Tweeting on their customer support account, they said, “AIB Internet Banking and the Mobile Banking app are currently experiencing technical difficulties.

“The issue also affects card-based e-commerce transactions that require strong customer authentication. We are working to resolve the issue and apologize for any inconvenience caused.”

In a more recent tweet after 5 p.m., they said, “You may experience some delay when logging into AIB Internet Banking and Mobile Banking App due to technical difficulties. This issue also affects card-based e-commerce transactions that require SCA.

“We are working to resolve the issue and apologize for any inconvenience.”

The news comes as last month it was reported that AIB plans to return 213 million euros to shareholders, including a managed buyout of 91 million euros, it said on Thursday after announcing a significant recovery in profits last year.

The Irish lender swelled to a pre-tax profit of €629m for the full year from a loss of €930m in 2020, when it set aside nearly €1.5bn for cover possible payment defaults due to Covid-19 disruption.

It took back 238 million euros of those provisions, helping to push profit towards the exceptional 1.1 billion euros pre-tax profit it made in 2019, before the pandemic hit.

The government announced in December that it planned to reduce its 71% stake in the bank over the next few months and BAIThe chief financial officer of told Reuters the bank’s preference was to deal with the state for the takeover and discussions were ongoing.
